Vivitar was known as a brand that offered a wide range of photography and videography products, covering both beginner photographers and more experienced users.

The brand's key products include cameras, binoculars, tripods and other devices that make the creative process and everyday tasks easier. The company also produced 35 mm cameras, night vision devices, underwater photography equipment, etc.

After the death of the founders, the company changed owners several times. In November 2006, Vivitar Corporation was sold to Syntax-Brillian. Following Syntax-Brillian's bankruptcy on August 21, 2008, the Vivitar brand and the company's intellectual property were sold to New Jersey-based Sakar International. Sakar International plans to sell digital cameras under the Vivitar brand.
